HEARTWOOD BEECH

Heartwood is the heartwood of the copper beech and is so called when the core is particularly colorful with a more vivid grain. Since the heartwood of the copper beech does not always differ in color from the residual wood, a recent theory is that the particularly strong grain is due to the tree’s defenses against fungi and viruses. We appreciate heartwood beech because of the individual colorings.
