Our natural mattresses and natural bedding are manufactured exclusively in Heuchelheim, Hesse. This not only gives us direct control over the quality of our products. We have also been securing jobs in the region for over 35 years and have become an important “regional player”. There are now almost 60 employees in Heuchelheim, many of them working part-time in a family-friendly way. The same social responsibility that we cultivate when purchasing raw materials also determines our working conditions on site and ensures a reliable team of long-term employees. We also have our bed and sofa bed frames as well as the wooden slatted frames manufactured in Germany by medium-sized companies.
Certified and tested
The QUL e.V. is an association of natural latex mattress producers, suppliers and trading companies, with the aim of promoting the use of natural latex in mattresses, ensuring 100% natural latex and establishing consumer safety through controls on harmful substances. The QUL seal on our dormiente natural mattresses and bedding guarantees maximum consumer safety through extensive and close-meshed controls of harmful substances in all materials used, as well as the exclusive use of natural raw materials and high product quality through regular mechanical testing. GOTS
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an international standard for the processing of textiles made from organically produced natural fibers. It defines environmental requirements along the entire textile production chain as well as social criteria. Quality assurance is achieved through independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. Our virgin wool and almost all fabrics come from a GOTS certified farm.

We use in many of our products – be it natural latex mattresses, natural box spring beds or natural hair blankets – COTTON from CONTROLLED BIOLOGICAL CULTIVATION. Because in addition to the pure fiber, the gentle, controlled organic cultivation strengthens the soil and the atmosphere. Despite cultivation as a monoculture, there is significantly higher biodiversity in and on the soil, as well as cleaner water. In addition, the guidelines of controlled organic cultivation also result in healthier working conditions for the people who do the growing.
100% Nature latex
Natural latex is made from natural rubber – a renewable raw material – which is free of solvents as well as chemical plasticizers. In addition, the energy required for the production of a mattress in this case is significantly lower than other mattresses. Compared to mattress cores made of synthetic latex and cold foam, natural latex has the lowest ecological impact during production with regard to almost all environmental parameters – especially primary energy consumption and global warming potential.

VIRGIN WOOL is super cozy and optimally climatizes the bed. We use only the highest quality virgin wool from controlled organic livestock. In controlled organic livestock farming, the animals are kept in a species-appropriate manner with plenty of grazing and additional feed comes from organic farming. The sheep are allowed to reproduce naturally and are not treated with pesticides; mulesing is excluded. To ensure that the processed wool is also as free of harmful substances as possible, the wool is regularly tested via QUL e.V.

The MANUFACTURE WORK offers a particularly high level of quality. Because through the trained eye of our mattress specialists, even small discrepancies catch the eye and can be eliminated. This gives us direct control over the quality of our products. From the sewing room to the upholstery shop, we can thus ensure a consistently first-class finish.
The pollutant stamp
is a sign of our dormiente philosophy and product policy: more than 30 years ago, we were the first mattress manufacturer ever to develop our own testing system for our products and subject them to strict tests for harmful substances. This made us a pioneer in the market. Today, this task – the testing of natural mattresses and natural bedding – is carried out by QUL (Qualitätsverband umweltverträgliche Latexmatratzen) e.V., which we co-founded and of which we are still members today. Our harmful substance stamp shows you all products that have been inspected via the QUL or other organizations/institutes.

More green facts about dormiente
Dormiente processes only renewable raw materials such as natural latex, cotton, virgin wool, solid wood and others. We source our 100% natural latex with QUL – partly also with GOLS seal – from long-term partners in the country of origin. This enables us to additionally ensure quality, environmental compatibility and socially acceptable working conditions through our own on-site inspections.
Already since 2011, only virgin wool and cotton with organic certification is used, wood comes from FSC or PEFC certified farms. With the use of hemp as an alternative to organic cotton, we have gone one step further, because most of the hemp already comes from Germany and also uses significantly fewer resources in cultivation. In addition, hemp and seaweed can be used to replace some of the natural latex without any loss in ergonomics.
When we built our new plant in Heuchelheim in 2017, we used energy-saving technologies such as our own combined heat and power plant and LED lighting. We use 100% green electricity. We have greened our company grounds in cooperation with NABU so that bees and birds feel particularly at home there. We have our catalog printed climate neutrally on FSC-certified paper.
